Preparing Babe for Baby

My cockatiel Babe is in for a rude awakening when the baby arrives. She has spent the last year being the 'baby' and center of attention. Constantly on my shoulder when I'm not working she thinks anything I have is hers as well and I am starting to get pretty worried about how she will react to the baby and lack of attention. While I was cleaning out a dresser last weekend to use in the nursery, I found one of Brianna's old dolls and thought I had come up with the perfect plan. I would hold the doll and have Babe on my shoulder to teach her she couldn't walk all over the 'baby' (and therefor poop all over the baby). So I get Babe on my shoulder and pick up the doll....the hissing from Babe is so constant that I'm not sure if she's really hissing or if it's possible that she's hyperventilating. Then she took off flying and for the first time ever ran away from me. Ok, day 1 of the experiment was short lived; I didn't want to find out if I could actually give her a heart attack.
We've been working up to a little more 'baby' time each day and after a week and half there is some slight improvement. She stays on my shoulder now and stares nervously down at the 'baby' for a bit...there is still the occasional hiss but she usually just closes her eyes (if she can't see it, it must not be there, lol). I'm sure all of this will be out the window once the baby arrives and doesn't lay motionless and silent, but, at least she'll be in the habit of keeping her distance.

Finally!

On Friday night, at 21 weeks and 1 day, I was finally able to feel BabyG kicking rather than just rolling around. Glenn was able to feel her last night too! This somehow makes things even more exciting. Now that we are officially past the halfway mark we finally started registering. By we, I really mean Becky & I, lol. It was pretty overwhelming and a long, long day of exploring babies r us, but we had fun. I've still got some work to do, but, it's coming along.

I'm headed off to Florida tonight to visit with the very excited Grandparents to be. Talk to everyone soon.

We are having a GIRL!!!

The ultrasound was great and everything looks good. She is currently 9 inches from head to toe and weighs 10 oz. Heartbeat was at 130 bpm and so loud now. We got to see her smiling, sucking her thumb and gulping down some amniotic fluid. I will get some pictures up soon!!!!

Hello!

Well hello everyone! Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written, but, there just hasn’t been much to write about. We are one week away from our big ultrasound where we should find out if BabyG is a boy or girl! Can’t wait!
Otherwise, nothing much just lots of planning……. I have what in theory seems like a great idea to make some meals I can freeze so we have food ready when the baby is born (Glenn would have us living on brownies, lol). Recipe testing begins this week; if I find anything outstanding I will certainly share. If you have any ‘freezer’ recipes, send them my way. Talk to you soon.
